Thrifty Ideas for Christmas Decor on a Budget

The holidays are fast approaching, are you ready for them? Many of us dream of a festive home that is decked in all the Christmas finest. However, our budget will often limit us on the amount of decorating that we can really do. If you want to deck the halls, but your budget is tight, there are some thrifty ideas for Christmas decor that will satisfy any budget – no matter how small. By using found items and a little bit of elbow grease and imagination, you can turn your home into the winter wonderland that you have always dreamed about.

Find a Theme

The first step in budget conscious Christmas decor is to find a theme that you can center your decorating around. One of the best thrifty themes is a toy land. You can use teddy bears, dolls or an assortment of other toys to create the look that you want. Make it more festive by tying Christmas ribbon to the toys or adding a few small boxes wrapped in scraps of paper. You could also select a rustic Christmas decor theme that would include plenty of objects right from nature, like pine boughs and found pinecones.

Add Simple Touches

If you want to spread your Christmas decor throughout the house, look for ways to add simple, festive touches to various nooks and crannies around your home. Place a few tea lights in some recycled, clean jars, add some ribbon around the rims and line them up on a table or mantle. Fill a few decorative bowls with plain glass ornaments and place around the room. You can also use basket filled with pinecones for a more rustic Christmas decor. Tie ornaments to your chandelier, or wrap a few boughs around them and embellish with Christmas bows. By using decorations that you have and adding a few simple touches, you can bring your Christmas decor all through your home.

Make them Yourself

Another way to save money on your Christmas decor is to make your baubles yourself. You can paint a couple of inexpensive terracotta pots and fill with candy, glass balls or other holiday trinkets. Or make them into topiaries by placing a Styrofoam ball on the end of a stick, inserting the stick into your pot, and decorating the ball with peppermints, greenery or fruit. Create simple garlands out of thread and holiday shapes cut from felt scraps. If you let your imagination run, you will be amazed at the Christmas decor that you can create with your own creativity and a few supplies from home.

Christmas was meant to be festive, but it doesn’t have to be expensive. Get creative with your Christmas decor and you will get your halls decked without putting a strain on your budget.
